One of the first things people notice about your physical appearance is your smile. Often, people noticeably missing teeth are embarrassed or ashamed, and make an effort to hide their teeth when speaking or laughing. While it can seem like a permanent Denturesproblem, there are ways to replace those missing teeth, and restore the confidence that you deserve.

Are dentures right for me?
If a patient only has one or two teeth to replace, the use of a dental bridge could be more beneficial than dentures. However, if patients have significant tooth loss, with many teeth to replace, dentures are often the best option.

What are the benefits of dentures?
Facial tissue tends to sag when there are no teeth to support it. Dentures can give new shape to the face, supporting and defining facial tissue. Confidence lost due to missing teeth may be restored while wearing dentures, giving you the chance to laugh and smile without hiding your teeth. While many people who have used dentures in the past might complain about ill-fitting dentures, thanks to great strides in dental technology, dentures are now able to be made to fit your mouth and gums securely.

How do I care for my dentures?
Caring for dentures may require several slight tweaks in your dental hygiene routine. Since they are removable, dentures must be taken out to be cleaned. Brushing them with a denture brush and denture cleaner will keep them clean and free of bacteria. To avoid damaging them, you should stand over a folded towel while handling the dentures, ensuring that, should you accidentally drop them, they have a soft surface to land on. You should not sleep in your dentures. They should be removed and soaked in denture cleaning solution or water overnight, and rinsed thoroughly before being put back into the mouth. It is also important to brush your gums and any remaining natural teeth, as well as the rest of your mouth, including the tongue, twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush.

The best way to determine if dentures are right for you is to consult with your dentist. Dr. Julie Folger, DDS in Sherman, TX can help. Call (903) 893-2540 to schedule your consultation today!
