Would you like to perfect your smile? Thanks to a variety of cosmetic dentistry treatments, improving your smile is easier than ever. cosmetic dentistrySherman, TX, cosmetic dentist, Dr. Julie Folger, discusses a few common treatment options.

Cosmetic contouring

During cosmetic contouring, a small amount of tooth enamel is removed to change the shape or length of teeth. The treatment is a good option if two teeth overlap slightly, one tooth is a little longer than others or you want to get rid of a point at the end of a tooth.

Dental bonding

During a bonding treatment in her Sherman office, Dr. Folger applies a small amount of a flexible material called composite resin to your teeth. Composite resin can be used to repair damage, lengthen teeth, hide discolorations, cover gaps and conceal imperfections. The resin is hardened with a special curing light then polished. Since composite resin is available in several tooth-colored shades, the bonded areas are indistinguishable from natural tooth enamel.

Teeth whitening

Have your teeth become duller over the years? Aging plays a part in a yellow smile, but the problem can also be caused by eating or drinking foods and beverages that stain teeth or by smoking. Professional teeth whitening removes extrinsic stains that affect your tooth enamel. After a single treatment, you can expect to see a three- to eight-shade improvement in your smile.

Porcelain veneers

If your teeth still aren't white enough after teeth whitening, porcelain veneers offer another option. Since veneers are available in any shade of white imaginable, you can choose the precise shade of your teeth. The thin porcelain shells are applied to the fronts of your teeth only, making them an ideal choice if you want to conceal discolorations, chips, gaps or other small flaws.

Dental implants

Dental implants offer a long-lasting way to replace missing teeth. Implants replace tooth roots and are placed in your jawbone where they soon bond to the bone. Once bonding is complete, a lifelike crown is attached to the top of the implant. Implants feel very much like the tooth you lost and help prevent bone loss in your jaw.
