There is more than only one kind of denture to choose from in Sherman, TX.

If you have severe tooth loss then you may just think that you get one type of dentures and then your treatment is done. Contrary to what denturesyou might think, when you turn to our Sherman, TX, dentist, Dr. Julie Folger, you have options. That’s right! There are different kinds of dentures, depending on your needs and lifestyle. Here are the different kinds of dentures available:

Removable Partial Dentures

These can be a great option for those who are missing teeth but still have some natural teeth present. This removable prosthetic will replace the missing teeth in your mouth and clasps from the dentures will be used to hold it in place. These clasps, which can be made from plastic or metal, often attach around natural teeth that are strong enough to support your false teeth. Clasps make it easy for your artificial teeth to stay put while in your mouth, but still be able to easily remove them every night.

Removable Complete Dentures

If you have complete tooth loss then getting a full set of dentures can help. These dentures are also removable and can be used to replace your upper and/or lower teeth. Conventional complete dentures will only be placed once any tooth extraction that is needed has been performed and once your mouth has healed. These dentures are designed to fit closely with the gums and bone tissue to help seal it in place. Of course, some patients also choose to use denture adhesives to keep them from moving around.

Immediate Dentures

If you’ve needed to get a tooth extraction your mouth will need time to heal before complete or partial dentures are placed. In the meantime, you will be given immediate dentures to wear. These tend to be worn for about 8 weeks while the gums heal from the extractions. These dentures are placed the same day as your extraction so you are never without teeth. Of course, they will need to be to adjusted in a couple of months, especially since the gum tissue will change after your extraction.

Implant-supported dentures

Small metal posts known as dental implants are placed into the jawbone where they fuse together to become a permanent, durable foundation from which to hold a restoration. While most people assume that dental implants can only support a dental crown, placing several implants into the jawbone can help support even a full set of dentures.

Do you have questions about getting dentures? Want to find out if they are the right restoration to replace your missing teeth? Then it’s time you called Dr. Folger today to schedule a consultation in Sherman, TX. Don’t let tooth loss get you down!
