Would you like to improve your smile but aren't sure which cosmetic procedure is right for you? Dr. Julie Folger, your cosmetic dentist in Sherman, TX, discusses several common types of procedures.
Composite Bonding
Bonding is an effective, relatively inexpensive way to repair damaged teeth and improve cosmetic issues. Putty-like composite resin, the material used for bonding, can be molded into any shape. Once it's applied to your teeth, it becomes as hard as your natural tooth enamel. Bonding is often used to lengthen teeth, improve the appearance of crooked teeth, fill slight gaps between teeth and cover cracks, chips and stains.
Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are hollow dental restorations that slip over a tooth, covering it completely. They're used to stabilize cracked or broken teeth or teeth that have been weakened by large fillings or root canal therapy. Crowns can also lengthen short teeth and conceal imperfections, such as oddly shaped or crooked teeth, discolorations, cracks and chips. Bridges replace missing teeth. They consist of one or more artificial teeth attached to crowns on either side.
Teeth Whitening
Dull, yellow teeth can make you feel self-conscious in business and social situations. After professional teeth whitening, your teeth will be as much as three to eight shades lighter. Your dentist offers both in-office whitening and take-home whitening kits for your convenience.
Veneers
Thin porcelain veneers hide flaws and imperfections that prevent you from enjoying a perfect smile. Since veneers are attached to the fronts of your teeth only, they don't require a complicated dental procedure. Veneers are used to whiten teeth and hide chips, cracks, gaps and oddly shaped teeth.
Dentures and dental implants
Full or partial dentures replace missing teeth, allowing you to eat and chew normally. Full dentures rest on your gums, while partial dentures usually hook over surrounding teeth. Dental implants are a good choice if you prefer a more permanent tooth loss replacement option. Implants replace your teeth from the root to the crown and can be used to replace one tooth or all of them.
Cosmetic dental procedures can make you feel like smiling again. Call Dr. Julie Folger, your cosmetic dentist in Sherman, TX, at (903) 893-2540 to schedule an appointment to find out which option is right for you.
